CSI project
This project was a Crime Scene Investigation overview. We learned many skills used in investigating murders. Some skills that we used were blood typing, bullet trajectory, blood splatter, and many more. The process of how this was done was very interesting. One morning we walked in on a man made from tape with fake blood and a gun on a table. The man had a gunshot through his head and this was how we started this project. We then learned and used different skills throughout the project. The final goal was to figure out who the killer was out of a list of three or four suspects. This project was very interesting. I was pretty involved because it was so interesting and new. I believe I collaborated with my partner very well, even though I was gone for a week in the middle of the project. The most interesting to me was the bullet trajectory. Overall this project was very fun and I learned a lot.
Monkey MEal Planning
The monkey meal planning project consisted of making recipes for monkeys. There were different perimeters in these recipes such as how many carbs and sugar there was in the meal that was prepared. Recipes were then made for the meals that have been made up. This project consisted of a lot of guess and checking to get the correct amounts of food.
Dissection
In the dissection project, we had our pick in different biological specimens. We could choose from a shark, fetal pig, cat, and pregnant cat. I chose a shark because it fascinates me how they work. The gills, and how oxygen is transported and defused really was cool to me. In this long process, over two weeks, my partner and I dissected the dogfish. I learned about the external anatomy, such as what the various fins do. Then I learned about the internal anatomy, the circulatory, digestive, and respiratory system of the shark. After dissecting the shark, a final exam was taken.
DNS Frog Population
We traveled to DNS to take frog population and water quality tests. When we got to DNS we were to catch frogs and then id them and tell wether they were bullfrogs or leopard frogs. If they were bullfrogs, the frogs were to be moved off the DNS property because bullfrogs are considered to be an invasive species. The fieldwork conducted were many water quality tests from the DNS pond and Florida River that runs through the property. Tests that were conducted included pH, phosphate, visual encounter, and more. We then looked at the data and put all the data into an excel spreadsheet at school. The spreadsheet was very complicated seeing that I had only used excel once before. After graphing the data from the spreadsheets, we did some technical writing. The technical writing was basically summarizing the project. It was hard for me because I had to never use the words; I, we, us, and me. It was because this was a technical writing. I am satisfied with the product because most of the data was conclusive and it was a fun project.
